Update from the Principal regarding the latest developments

07-January-21

7.1.2021 (6.30pm)

Dear Parents,

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and healthy New Year. I hope you all had an enjoyable and restful Christmas.

As we are all now aware, the Government announcement yesterday determined direction regarding the school situation for January. In brief (and at present) this means

  1. 6th years in school three days a week.
  2. The Rogers Suite open as normal Mon – Fri
  3. Online learning for everyone else form Monday.

However, as I write there are so many arguments and debates still ongoing that this may very well change by Monday. Please keep checking in for the latest updates.

If this goes ahead as planned there are many logistics to be planned. Ms. Horrigan and I, have attended online meetings this week to be briefed of the plans. We held meetings today with some staff members and a full staff meeting will be taking place tomorrow. We will finalise how exactly we intend to proceed at this meeting as the opinions of all staff, teachers and SNA’s will result in the best possible plan. This, we will communicate to you all by text, email, website and app.

It is truly unprecedented what we are all living through. In the previous lockdown from March 2020 to May 2020 we were so appreciative of your continuous support. Moving to teaching online was not easy. However we all managed it successfully, eventually. This time we simply have to accept the inevitability of it all. I am asking for your support to make sure your child logs on to each class, each day. I am lucky to work with such a dedicated staff who will try to make this online experience as manageable as possible for all students. I know our students will roll up their sleeves and do their very best. And I thank you, parents/guardians in advance for your continued support.

Please ensure that your child has their laptop/ipad ready. They have their emails. Microsoft Teams is the platform they know. We will send refresher emails to all (including parents) on how to use and access.

Through myself, Ms. Horrigan and the various year heads we will try and resolve any issues that arise. Please, as always, do not hesitate to contact us, (by email), and within a short time we will get back to you.

We will facilitate the collection of books from the school on Monday

1st years 10am – 10.30am Surname A – K 10.30 – 11.00 L - Z

2nd years 12.00 – 12.30 A-K 12.30 -1.00 L – Z

3rd years 1.30-2.00 – A-K 2.00 -2.30 L – Z

5th years 2.30 – 3.00 A-K 3.00 – 3.30 L-Z

I am also in school tomorrow from 9.30 if students want to call. I ask all to wait outside, socially distanced and in masks. We will invite you in in small numbers.

In conclusion, for now, this is an ever changing situation. We will get through it, as we did previously. We will remain in regular communication. If you need to contact me, please email p.keohane@donahiescs.ie or office@donahiescs.ie .

In the meantime stay safe and well.

Kind regards,

Peter Keohane
