Performing Arts in the Donahies

Young Americans 2016!!!

There is an exciting year ahead for performing arts in the Donahies Community School as we are delighted to announce the return of The Young Americans who will arrive to the school on January 19th 2016. There will be 3 days of music, dance, acting and singing. All students are welcome to
attend the workshops and a performance on Thursday January 21st. Please see Ms. Ferrigan for further details.

At The Donahies Community School performing arts is a massive part of our school year. Whether you want to strut your stuff on stage, paint the sets, sing your heart out or sit in the audience we have a place for you!

Hairspray 2014

Rehearsals and auditions took place in August and students rehearsed every Saturday until December. You can see some of our pictures on our Facebook page here.

On November 14th students stunned crowds in Donaghmede and Clare Hall shopping centres with a flashmob to promote the show. You can watch the video of this flashmob here.

Finally, after months of preparation, on December 3rd 4th and 5th 44 students took to the stage for 5 sell out performances. Our live in house band added to the electric feel in the auditorium. It was a performance not to be missed!

The Donahies Community School values the arts. We understand the vital role of music, drama and dance as modes of self expression. We encourage students to develop within themselves their unique response to the arts by exposing them to quality theatrical, cinematic and musical performances.

We are committed to nurturing young talent. Our music school offers students the opportunity to learn many instruments including the piano, guitar, violin and drums. We also house a recording studio where students can learn the craft of sound engineering with our world class sound engineer JJ Vernon. We are very lucky to have some exceptionally talented music tutors and their dedication and influence is evident in the annual talent show D'idol.

While we value performance much of the true magic happens behind the scenes, it is often here that our students experience the transforming power of the arts. It is here we witness students developing and growing together, we see our seniors encouraging and inspiring the younger members of the drama and music groups, helping each other learn lines or create sounds and dance. Our dramatic and musical productions are always a collaborative effort, supported hugely by our extremely talented art and woodwork departments.

Whether it's Lady Macbeth or Lady Gaga, The Donahies Community School's outstanding annual productions have entertained the whole community for the last 28 years and will continue to do so well into the future.
