Leaving Cert Vocational Programme (LCVP)

Leaving Cert Vocational Programme (LCVP)

The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) is a two-year programme offered as part of the Leaving Certificate. It combines the academic strengths of the traditional Leaving Certificate with a focus on enterprise and preparation for the world of work.

LCVP aims to equip students with valuable vocational skills, self-directed learning abilities, and an understanding of the business and community environment. It encourages innovation and the development of key skills relevant to further education and employment.

Key Features of the LCVP:

  • Students take a minimum of five Leaving Certificate subjects (including Irish).
  • They also study two "Link Modules":
  • Preparation for the World of Work: This module focuses on career investigation, job-seeking skills, and understanding the workplace.
  • Enterprise Education: This module develops students' entrepreneurial skills, initiative, and creativity through activities like mini-enterprises and investigating local businesses.
  • A central part of the assessment is a portfolio of work (60%) completed over the two years, which includes items like a CV, career investigation, and enterprise report.
  • There is also a written examination (40%) on the content of the Link Modules.
  • Students can earn CAO points for the LCVP, which are added to their overall Leaving Certificate points.

The LCVP provides a valuable opportunity for students to develop practical skills, gain insights into the world of work, and enhance their Leaving Certificate experience.
