Transition Year

Transition Year: A Year of Opportunity

Transition Year (TY) is a unique one-year programme offered after the Junior Cycle. It provides a bridge between the junior and senior cycle, allowing students the opportunity to mature academically, personally, and socially.

During TY, students typically experience a broader curriculum than in other years, often including taster modules of Leaving Certificate subjects, as well as subjects not usually offered. A key focus of TY is active and experiential learning. Students engage in projects, presentations, teamwork, and often get involved in work experience, community initiatives, and outdoor activities.

TY aims to help students:

  • Develop greater independence and responsibility for their learning.
  • Explore their interests and aptitudes to help inform their Leaving Certificate subject choices.
  • Enhance their personal and social development.
  • Gain valuable life skills.

Ultimately, Transition Year is about providing students with the time and space to grow, explore, and prepare for the challenges and opportunities of the Senior Cycle and beyond.
